winter closedown

Postby across on Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:32 pm

A happy xmas and (hopefully) a prosperous new year to all at fallbarrow.
I popped up to FB yesterday just on an inspection visit and noticed significant efforts going on to replace all jetties.
I was thinking of going up for new years eve, I have a couple of kids aged 8 and 11 as this is my first year of lodge ownership can anyone advise what its like at FB on new years eve, also any advise about draining down a) is it necessary and b) who is best company to use ?

As it is only the second year of having an extended season and we boycotted the extended season last year, I can't really comment on what the New Year is like at FB. A few people who I spoke who did stay over NY said it was good. Bowness can't be a bad place to bring in the New Year after all.

In terms of winterisation, I did it myself last year. Did not drain down but did everything else. Turned off the water under the Lodge, turned all the taps on, flushed all the toilets to empty the cisterns, put windscreen washer fluid in all the traps and hoped for the best. I assumed that the central heating system had anti freeze. However, it was a risk and on balance I had to replace the mixer unit in the bathroom as I forgot to leave it open. Had I paid for professional drain down I would not have needed a new tap. But probably not much difference in terms of cost. I will probably go the DIY route again this year.

Regards
