Wi Fi

Postby Fallbarrow on Sun Aug 31, 2008 1:34 pm

Hopefully over the next two weeks the WI-FI will be installed and activated at Fallbarrow. I for one will make full use of this as I currently access the internet for e-mail by connecting my computer to my mobile (very slow).

Has anybody at WXB got any experience yet of the service? Speed, reliability etc.? Is it been installed and working at Limefitt?

Regards

We have the bits of wood but were told middle of September. Apparently, it is a specialist company doing the installation. I guess this kind of thing is not the sort of stuff the "sparky" mate of the site manager can complete.

You get a 3G Signal up at Limefitt?

I get a 3G signal on Orange but not with T-Mobile down here in Fallbarrow.

Well we have little grey boxes on the wooden posts at FB, so things are definitely progressing.

I agree it will be great to have WI-FI on site, from a personal use or rental perspective.

Good point on how to advertise it though.

I believe the wi-fi is now up and running at all three sites. Anybody any experience of the performance?

Well I can answer my own question as I writing this whilst connected to the Fallbarrow wi-fi network. Performance is pretty good in terms of speed, not sure in terms of connection reliability. My wi-fi indicator is showing just 22% and already the connection has dropped twice. Time will tell how reliable the service will be.

However, even though the connection was lost on my laptop, I could still get wi-fi on my BlackBerry mobile phone. So it could just be my laptop does not have the greatest reception.

Still, the service for free is significantly better than trying to access tinternet through dial up on my mobile phone. The real test will be I guess in the Summer when lots of folks try and gain access.
