Hi
I recently purchased a preused lodge at fallbarrow and have read with great interest all correspondence and threads on this site and the kw blog.
My threepeneth worth is that yes I bought a lodge, however as a strictly financial decision it was probably a bad one as I would have been better off investing in other areas however when you hit 50 you are allowed indulgences.
I was recently talking to a friend who bought a holiday home in portugal and I told him about my purchase. We compared notes and he asked me do I pay a service charge and when I told him how much he nearly fell off his chair, he then asked me what do slp provide for this significant fee, I thought about a reply for a moment but all I could come up with was they do the gardening. Anyway I bought with my eyes open and negotiated strongly thanks to our friend at limefitts help.
I agree with comments about the relevence of an extended season as me and my family have so far only spent 4 nights at the lodge as the terrible wet weather has not induced us to go to fallbarrow, cold I can take and having lived abroad for a number of years where the sight of a cloud was a rare thing I quite like cold and changing weather conditions however the severe rain recently would I think only have kept us indoors and we would prefer to be indoors at home. So a shorter seaon would suit me.

The point of my message before I got a bit rambling was to ask for advise.
I would like to start sailing preferably in a small dinghy type sailboat can anybody advise where I might get some good training also I am a avid horserider can anyone reccomend a good local stable.

Thanks and I will continue to read and contribute to the forum, well done Kevin.

I think there is sailing tuition down at Low Wood Marina (half way towards Ambleside) but I am not too sure.

I remember last season there was a guy turn up at the slipway with a couple of sailing dingys offering taster lessons so they do exist on the Lake

I guess the other place to try would be sailing club in Bowness.

If I see my neighbour up at the lodge I will check with him where he got his sailing lessons for his son.
