Heath and Safety

I was surpised to see that a large section of the safety fences around the construction work at Limefitt were lying on the floor totally useless over the entire New Year holiday. They were only fixed today after most people had left.

Well, I say I was surprised, but then I reported this eye-wateringly dangerous piece of barbed wire at child eye height next to the play park some months ago, and nobody has done anything about it. In case you can't make it out clearly in the photo, it runs diagonally across the gate shown starting at about 3 feet high on the left hand side

I suppose that not having a fence round some building work wasn't so unexpected after all really :?

You can see it more clearly here

Health and safety

It seems that each Park has very different approaches to H & S. I have seen other Parks and feel that at White Cross the General Manager and his team do a good job . Does SLP have a dedicated H&S officer ? and is he given the resources to address the issues when they occur.

Health and Safety officer

Interesting question WXBowner, somehow I doubt that SLP have such a post, well a dedicated one anyway. Somebody in SLP must be designated to be responsible from a legal standpoint. It would be interesting to see what would happen if there was a H&S inspection on any of the sites. On Fallbarrow, any inspector would throw a wobbler looking at the state of the jetties and the number of kids playing on them, accident waiting to happen.

However, good to hear that at least one SLP site is doing something right.

Regards

I was hoping that there would be the promised new jetties at Fallbarrow by March 1st. As of yesterday, there was no sign of them. Mind you, there was no sign of the old jetties either as they were under water

Is it black and white and stripy?

Perhaps we should be badgering him to pay a visit to Limefitt?

Groan

It will only be black and white stripes if SLP have recruited Kevin Keegan

H& S on Limefitt Park

Postby lakeland on Sun Feb 03, 2008 10:03 am

Several H&S issues have been raised with Bev Dixon ( Operations Director) over the past year

- the blind spot on the road next to Windermere Lodge turning into Fellside .....suggested a barrier close to the toilet block to control access and slow traffic .

- roaming sheep on the site are a major hazard especially when your children are around

- during the freeze ( w/c 21/12) the maintenance guys failed to turn off the oven rings ( naked flame ) in a lodge on Fells Side for until the morning after it was reported !!!! ...they also deny turning on the oven rings in the first place

- Raw sewage spell is a major health hazard ( beacuse they won't upgrade the infrastructure and pump station ) which has aleady been reported to the Environmental Health Dept at the Council

- Speed bumps installed without hazard warning markings ....pointed out by another guest to the Park Manager

For "issues" SLP equate these to "expense to be avoided at all cost"

It would seem that even Environmental Health and the threat of HSE can't make them put their hands in their pockets.
