Poor ITV Reception

Poor ITV Reception

Postby ASHTHWAITE on Sun Nov 16, 2008 4:53 pm

Is anyone else experiencing poor ITV reception at Fallbarrow? Have recently installed a new Sony LCD into our Lodge, but ITV is often unwatchable due to the picture jumping across the screen from right to left. At the same time the picture quality reduces. Then it will be okay for 10 minutes, or an hour. The other 3 channels are perfect so don't believe it's a fault of the TV itself. Have played with the cables but makes no difference. Had no problem with the old TV set. Because it's random would bet if I called an engineer out it would be working perfectly well so wanted to find out if anyone else is experiencing the same on site. Thanks.

Hi Ash

Two things come to mind. ITV is notoriously poor reception, even ITV broadcast via Freeview Digital suffers from a poor quality picture and is unwatchable in our home (not Lodge). Secondly, the sensitivity of Sony sets demands a very good quality signal and to be honest is probably optimised for digital broadcasts.

We also have an LCD TV (a cheap non branded one) and ITV is OK (not great) on the analogue input.

Your aerial may not be aligned properly as well.

You could buy an signal amplifier from Curry's, Argos etc. The Lodge should have one fitted but you can run them in series for an extra boost.

Hopefully, sometime soon there will be a new digital transmitter for Bowness (next year?)

Thanks for that FB. After my post we 'surfed' the web (convenient now that we have wi fi) for any information on ITV signal quality and found a few forums with a similar tale to tell. Just pleased it's not our new TV, especially as we always have the urgency to fix things in readiness for our next guests. Have already added an extra interior booster for the aerial but it makes no difference, though will look at the exterior one tomorrow to check its position at the back of the lodge. Being random is puzzling, but there does seem to be a pattern forming in that It seems to be more apparent when there is high pressure so we're keeping an eye on that theory - it's on now and ITV is picture perfect - we are in low pressure at the moment. Last Saturday evening was the worst ever -high pressure (was determined to watch the comedy show on ITV for Charlie's 60th, but listened to it rather than watched it!! Very Good Show). Let's hope that the Digital Switch Over in June next year will be trouble free and the signal will be okay, but somehow I have a feeling that it won't be as plain sailing as being out on the lake in a boat!!
